Instructions

    • 1

Discover your state or province real estate appraisal body. In many states, this will be called either the state real estate appraisal board or the state real estate appraisal commission.

    • 2

Contact the real estate appraisal board to ask about state-specific resources for becoming employed as a commercial appraiser in your state or province. Some states make resources available to you.

    • 3

Contact banks directly to see about the process of becoming a full-time or trainee bank appraiser and to see if their positions are posted online. Banks hire real estate appraisers as it is in their interest to know the definitive value of a property before they extend financing on it.

    • 4

Contact home insurance companies to see about available opportunities. Like banks, they need to know how much a house is worth, and they need to know about concerns that must be addressed before they extend insurance. For example, many insurance companies will not provide insurance on houses that have roof or foundation issues.
